The Other Mice - Sweet Friend Card

“Are these mice to Big”?!

If you’ve been following along with this blog and you have read all about a “Cheesy Card Collaboration”, then you’ll know why I’m asking :)

I think these mice are just perfect!

These sweet little mice come from Alex Syberia - Sweet Friend Stamp and Die

These adorable mice were intended for a different project, however they never ended up making a debut on that cheesy card. Since they were already colored they needed a home of their own.

Normally when I start to create a card - I begin with the background and add from there. Yep… most times the card derives from the background. I usually have an intended piece of background paper. I may know what image I am wanting to work with, however typically I already know what the background will be and I choose my colors and such from that background.

This process was a little backwards - where I have the mice and no background. The mice were already colored, so I needed to choose the background colors from the mice or at least something that was going to contrast nicely with them.

Well… as you can see the mice didn’t have a lot of color. I sat this aside for a moment, pulled out some distress oxide ink a piece of cardstock, and a water spritzer bottle.

Don’t forget some paper towel, this is about to get messy!

Using the ink smooshing technique I added a few dabs of Seedless Preserves Distress Ink Oxide to my glass mat. To this I spritzed a little water and waited a few seconds for the ink to start moving around a little. Then face down dabbed my paper into the messy puddle on my desk. I continued this process a few times until I had a coverage of ink on the cardstock that made me happy.

After drying the first layer of ink with my heat tool, I repeated the same process using festive berries distress oxide ink.

** Festive berries Distress Oxide doesn’t seem quite so berry,it’s somehow more like my grandma’s lipstick. Whether it is berries or grandma’s lipstick - I love this amazing pop of color!!

After drying the layer of Festive Berries, I added a splatter of gold sparkle and allowed this to dry as well.

Such a beautiful background! I love using the ink smooshing technique to create background paper, especially if you need specific colors in a background. Ink smooshing is just one process that allows you to choose your own exact colors to coordinate your project.

From the Sweet Friend stamp set, I stamped a flower and the sentiment as well as the tiny little xoxo. I colored the flower using Copic Markers to somewhat match with one of the colors in the background. I used the dies from the Sweet Friend Die set to cut all of these out.

Using my Sweet Petunia Glue Press, did I mention this is my new favorite tool in my studio, I added the flower and the xoxo to the card front. I used foam tape to add the Sweet Friend sentiment and the mice to give the card front just a bit of dimension.

Wondering how I ever lived without this Precision Glue Press!?? Well… in fact I do know - I had completely sticky gluey fingers at all times, had glue everywhere other than where the glue was supposed to go, and used far to much time trying to glue small die cuts or embellishments to my projects! This was by far the most useful gift of 2024!! Sure to be using it for many years to come.

** Just a note - if you want to order this (of course you want to order this), click the product above, if it says “Out of Stock” (it’s hard to keep this baby in stock), hit the “Notify Me” button and you will receive an email as soon as it’s back in stock, ensuring you won’t miss out on this craft room game changer!!

The card finishes off with a few tiny rhinestones… my favorites of course - Spellbinders Color Essentials.

There is another little mouse inside the card to go with the inside sentiment. (I did forget to take a photo)

I absolutely love how this card turned out! The colors, those sweet little mice friends, just everything. The cards I have created using Sweet Friend have been among the most popular “any day” cards created for the past few months. There are so many options when using this stamp set, so many sentiments and adorable little mice to create little scenes on your card fronts. Just click on the stamp set image above to see a larger view of the images and sentiments to find out if it speaks to you!!

I have one more adorable card with a different “mousy” image coming up - so be sure to check back for that!

What’s with all the mice? I’m not sure what’s up with that, however I sure have had fun creating with all of these super fun mice images.

I guess I have been feeling quite mouse-chievous!!
