A “Cheesy” Card Collaboration

I love when a “grate” mashing of products come together to create a terrific snack!

Ooops!! Never mind… that’s a recipe.

So… what do you call it when a couple of incredible stamps sets, some ink, a stencil, markers and 2 great minds come together over a block of cheese card base?

Hmm… not really sure, however the end result was one darn cute but cheesy card!!

This card was a collaboration of a Trinity Stamp set, a Lawn Fawn stamp set, a girl with a block of cheese card base, and her friend who said the card needed smaller mice.

So this is how this card happened…

I was at my desk creating a block of cheese, literally. Well a card base that resembled a block of cheese, when my great friend popped in (you may remember her from the My Flaky Friend post). **Just note her interest in card making is NIL. However, if I’m working and she wants to visit she pulls up a chair in my studio and enjoys a great cup of coffee while her mind ponders just what the heck I am doing and why. :)

Of course she asks “whatcha making”?

I replied: a block of cheese.

She responds (in a rather high pitched tone): at your desk?? Like she actually thought I had just pulled curds and whey out of my crafting space?! :o

So I had this card base constructed to resemble a piece of cheese. Simple - it’s a regular card base and then I just cut a diagonal section off of the height of it.

Cut a hole with a circle die cut and a few partial holes with a 1” circle punch, then used a sponge and coordinating ink to create some dimension around the holes as well as the outside edges of the card.

I added a piece of white cardstock to the inside of the card to create an inside panel.

I had stamped a mouse on this inside panel to peek out the full circle onto the card front. Along with 2 other mice that were intended for the front of the card. I colored them and the whole nine yards - when my friend exclaims “you need smaller mice”.

Well … this is a great time to tell me that! (Insert sarcasm here) Not before I stamp a mouse onto the inside panel. Or before I stamp 2 other mice. Or maybe even before you sit and watch me color them. No.. this is exactly the perfect time to tell me you think I “need smaller mice”!! That’s one of the things I love so dearly about my friend - her timing is impeccable!!

As much as I might raze her about her poor sense of timing or delayed reaction, whichever she is calling it…lol If she tells me I need smaller mice, I’m going to respect her opinion. She is the onlooker, she is the person looking at the card come into play- if something isn’t right she is going to see it right?! Just maybe not at the right time… Hahaha!

I told her I didn’t have any other mice, these would have to do.

Oh wait!! I do have some more mice. I have some adorable mice on a lawn fawn set. Well let’s just see if they will work. Lawn Fawn Dandy Day Stamp Set. This stamp set is absolutely adorable!

I pulled them out, stamped and colored a few, did a small dress rehearsal. Lord knows I wasn’t going to attach them or stamp anything directly for fear I would hear that loud shrill again making a proclamation about the size of the mice.

But to my great surprise… she said “their perfect”.

Onto the card they went - 1 on the negative circle I had cut from the card base attached to the inside of the card. Since the much smaller mouse just wasn’t going to be peeking out of that hole, it looked best if he was ground to something. Another on the inside panel peeking out the partial cut circle. On the card inside he is standing on a “xoxo” sentiment.

The last mouse went on the front of the card with the cheese grater from Trinity Stamps - Grate, Grater, Gratest Stamp set . The sentiment, also from the same stamp set pairs perfectly with the cheese grater. However what works even better with the sentiment and the grater? The little grated cheese embellishments - Shredded Cheddar Sprinkles! My friends favorite part of the card!! -Not the “perfect” sized mice, but the grated cheese!

Moral of the story - crafting with a friend always pairs nicely with cheese! Just kidding… crafting with a friend is always great for a laugh. One of these days I’m just going to turn it into a video when she comes - pure entertainment!

In all fairness - I think my friend was exactly correct and the smaller mice just suited the card so much better. The card felt a lot more playful with the Lawn Fawn mice. So in all actuality - 2 minds are greater than 1.

I know you’re wondering what I did with the original mice? You know the ones that were apparently “to big”….

You’ll find them on the next card
