Who’s up for a game? Little Dudes Masculine Card
Soccer or Football?
Depending on where you live you may call the sport soccer or football.
The sport known as football in Great Britain is usually called Soccer in the United States and Canada.
Here’s the best explanation I could find for why?
Students at the University of Oxford in the 1880s distinguished between the sports of “rugger” (rugby football) and “assoccer” (association football). The latter term was further shortened to “soccer” (sometimes spelled “socker”), and the name quickly spread beyond the campus. However, “soccer” never became much more than a nickname in Great Britain.
So I guess it’s like “tomayto, tomahto” and “potayto, potahto”.
If I am wrong and there is a greater difference…someone please let me know in the comments below. :)
In Canada - soccer is an extremely popular summer sport for kids.
Local fields everywhere are filled with children learning the skills of the game that will lead them on to advanced soccer leagues, hockey or football. It’s where they learn the basic skills of any of those sports, but most importantly where they learn social skills and how to be a team player in an extremely sweaty, yet fun environment.
Today’s card captures exactly that in it’s entirety.
Brightly colored, playful patterned paper sets a backdrop for this cute Little Dude and his soccer ball.
Ready to take on the world with a sentiment that reads “The world is your playground”.
The star of the card is a digital image from Polka Doodles crafting entitled - Football/Soccer Little Dude. This digital package contains 1 black and white image, 3 fabulous digital papers, and 3 sentiments. Which is completely enough to create a few fabulous cards!
**In the card above I used only the image and 1 of the papers, the other 2 papers and the sentiment were from a different digital package ( I’ll get to that a bit further down ). I just love to mix and match between these sets.
The Little Dude on the above card actually comes from a full collection of 21 Little Dude images - black & white for coloring, plus precolored images ( bonus if you don’t like to color ). The collection also contains tons of playful, fun digital pattern papers, and more sentiments than you can imagine.
The Little Dudes Big Kahuna Bundle could not be more perfect when it comes to creating cards for little boys… or even big boys! There is so much stuff to create with in this full collection… you won’t even believe it!! Especially for the price of it! No where can you get this much great stuff for card creation for such a small price!
I love Polka Doodles!!! Maybe I have said that a time or two, but I really do!
Now… if you for some insane reason are highly opposed to digital crafting you can also purchase these images individually as a physical clear stamp with an included sentiment stamp.
You can check those out here. Little Dudes Football/Soccer Clear Stamp.
So just to sum up the products used on my card above, I used the Football/Soccer Little Dude image combined with 3 digital papers from different Little Dude digital sets, and the sentiment was also from a different Little Dude set. Simply because I love to mix and match the products!! Creating digitally gives you this option so easily!
The card design was simply from mixing and matching and layering 3 different pattern papers 2 of them cut with random deckled edge dies.
The image was colored using Copic Markers, and then fussy cut. I used foam tape on the back of the image to give the boy some dimension on the card front. As well as the soccer ball.
I added a bit of color to the ticket with the sentiment to give it a little interest and added a few dots from my stash that happened to really resemble the the black patches in the soccer ball. I love it when something like that “plays” out.
Here’s a fun fact: I ended up printing and coloring the soccer ball 3 times - due to the fact that my brain could not seem to get the coloring pattern correct!! Yes, that actually happened!
**Here is where I just want to thank my inspiration for these Little Dudes cards - I have this incredibly adorable young boy in my extended family who is just so darn cute & smart and his thirst for knowledge and life inspires my creativity when working with the Little Dudes collection.
