Happy Pancake Day - Interactive Greeting Card
A Flippin’ Fun Interactive Card
Creating with paper and a splash of syrupy sweetness! 🍁✨
This card is dripping with sweet sticky rich maple syrup drizzling over a morning stack of fluffy pancakes!! The card for me is like a slice of Canada - short of a playful moose, a cheeky beaver, and 2 feet of snow frozen in time with sub zero temperatures. :)
As the aroma of warm pancake batter fills the the air, this little chef can’t help but giggle as she watches this sweet stack of pancakes wobble precariously.
Wait! What?! The pancakes are wobbling?
This flippin’ fun interactive Pancake Day card was created with the Flipping Pancakes image from Polkadoodles Pancakes & Waffles collection. I colored the image with
Copic Markers after arranging it on a layer of white cardstock.
I drew in a line to divide the floor from the wall in the background. Lightly stenciled a brick pattern for the wall, and colored in the floor leaving a slight shadow of the image.
I was sure to leave enough room to fit in the additional stacks of pancakes that wiggle and wobble playfully in the frying pan. The stacks of pancakes were also colored with Copic Markers and then fussy cut.
How did I make the pancakes wobble?
This is where the magic happens - Read the instructions or watch the video below!
Stack up the pancakes in the order you would like them to appear on your card front and using a piece of sticky note tape, mint tape or another low tack tape, apply the tape right down the front of your stack of pancakes. Just enough so it holds them in place in the stacked position.
Cut a piece of jewellery cord to about 6 inches and just lay the cord down the stack of pancakes, leaving about a inch and a half of cord on each end of the stack. Tape the jewellery cord to the back of each pile of pancakes one at a time. Small piece of tape on the back of each animal. Tape a magnetic disc or a dime to the back of the top section of pancakes.
Gently lift the stack of pancakes and place them on the white cardstock layer in the position that you would like them to appear on the card. Holding both the panel and the stack of pancakes, use a small hole punch (or even a paper piercer and mat) to add a tiny hole behind the top pancake stack. So the hole will be covered up with that actual pancake stack.
Repeat the same procedure with the bottom pancake stack.
Holding the stack of pancakes to the desired place on the cardstock layer feed the top tail of the jewellery cord though the top hole. Turn over and tape the jewellery cord to the back of the cardstock layer.
Repeat this process for the bottom hole. Do not pull the cord tight. Leave just a hint of slack. I used stretchy jewellery cord and I feel that gives a bit more play. However, you don’t want it really loose. Once both ends of the cord are taped in place give the card a gentle shake from side to side to test out the mechanism. The pancakes should wobble back and forth, tipsy turvy but not fall down… If the mechanism is working correctly continue to the next step, if not - troubleshoot!
Carefully remove the low tack tape that runs down the center of all of your pancakes.
Using a generous amount of foam dots or foam tape on the back of this layer, not a must, but it looks great!
Attach this layer to the front of the colored cardstock layer, then adhere to the card base.
It’s so much easier than it sounds!
Lastly add the sentiment that reads “Have a Flippin’ Great Day”! ( Be sure to check out all of the super fun pancake sentiments in this sentiment pack)!!
