Don’t forget your Broomstick!! Halloween Card
It’s Halloween night… the skies are dark with a huge super moon glowing, lighting a path for all the spooks, goblins and scary Halloween creatures that embark on the fun of All Hallow’s Eve.
An owl sits atop a creepy tree branch with eyes that are taking in the enchantment of the evening.
Bats are swooping around in flight searching for fright night fun!
And Eunice & Skid are out for a ghoulish midnight sweep…
This card was created first by uploading some digital files into Adobe Express on a canvas size of 4 1/4 x 5 1/2, this way when I am adding images to the canvas it is already sized for an A2 sized card.
I used digital elements from Sweet November Stamps (they have an amazing collection of both physical stamps and digital stamps. They also have some background builder images which are perfect for creating scene cards… and this card… it definitely qualifies as a scene card.
So… if you draw like I do - where even a sketched out stick man is unrecognizable background builder stamps are a great asset when creating a background scene for your cards.
I chose a “Spooky Tree” & the “Spooky Full Moon” and uploaded them to an open canvas on Adobe Express.
**Remember Adobe Express is free, so give it a try with a digital image and open up your artistic skills to more than just a rubber stamp.
The “Spooky Tree” image came with an owl that could be placed in the scene somewhere, so I chose to add this owl to my tree image so that he could sit upon the tree branch and take in everything this haunting Halloween night had to offer.
After placing the moon, the tree and the owl in the desired positions ( using Adobe Express you can move your elements all over the place on your canvas until you have everything exactly as you would like it), it was time to add my focal point - “witch” of course was “Eunice & Skid”.
Aren’t they just simply so adorable?!
Eunice & Skid are so darn cute that it’s hard to imagine that them in a spooky themed card… yet there they are.
Eunice with her hair blowing in the chilling night air and Skid hanging on for dear life to the broomstick that is the chosen method of travel for this pair on All Hallow’s Eve.
Once Eunice and Skid are added the canvas, just be sure that that you have clicked on the image and brought them ( the focal point ) to the front. So that all other png images are then placed behind them.
Download from Adobe Express to a saved folder on your computer. Open the file in your print program, print at 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 and you are ready to create a mystical Halloween card front.
Once the printed image is before you…
Use a light grey marker ( I used Copic Markers ) to add a little shadow to one side of the moon. Continue to color the moon in lightly with a very light shade or two of yellow tones.
When you are happy with the moon, move on to the coloring of the tree and the owl.
This is where I started to complete the background sky for the scene. I used a variation of very light purples to create the circular glow around the moon, and then just moved outward in gradient shades of violets and blue violets, making sure the background got darker as it moved closer to the outside edges and the bottom of the card front panel.
Creating the background sky can be a timely, yet very satisfying process - so just turn on a movie or your favorite music, relax and let the creativity flow.
Chris Stapleton has no idea how many cards he has inspired in my studio …. :) lol
Lastly was the coloring of Eunice & Skid. I’m not sure why I choose to color the focal point last, however for some unknown reason I do. Have fun with Eunice & Skid and let your creative process take over - this is how she ended up with green hair. Which I think was just perfect for her.
Now this card isn’t going to scare the pants off of anybody, but it sure equals a whole lot of cuteness and checks all the boxes for a super fun Halloween card to share with someone you love!
