A Mother’s Day Card for My Mother or for Me??
My whole life Mother’s Day for me meant finding the perfect gift, cooking a wonderful meal and of course creating a beautiful card for my Mom! Creating the perfect day so she knew how special she was!
I lost my Mom just 2 short months ago…
My mother loved my cards, she was completely supportive of my ability to create beautiful cards and to share that talent with others. She was a firm believer that “one can accomplish anything if they use their full potential”. My mother was a career oriented woman who felt every woman should follow their dreams.
So as I sat processing the grief that comes with losing a parent and the realization that I wouldn’t be making a Mother’s Day card this year - an opportunity presented itself, just out of no where.
Polka Doodles had asked me to join their design team! What an absolute compliment!!
With great pride and full of passion I accepted this amazing opportunity!
First challenge: A Mother’s Day card.
While I had been so intent that I wouldn’t be creating a Mother’s Day card this year, there I found myself in a position to create a Mother’s Day card that was every bit as important as though I were creating it for my own mother.
I just started creating… I didn’t even have to give it a second thought.. the process was just there…
The card has many layers of dimension - just like my mother. There are beautiful flowers in bloom that she would absolutely love, and a sentiment that in no better way could express her wishes for me…
Thank you Mom…
So, yes - this card has the conventional grace and beauty of a Mother’s Day card, however for me it holds a message and a reminder to live each day to its fullest and take the time to enjoy the life I was blessed with…
This Mother’s Day card comes with the traditional flowers and butterflies you might find on a Mother’s Day card and it will certainly look beautiful with a “Happy Mother’s Day” or “ I love you Mom “ sentiment.
The beautiful digital files from Polka Doodles make it so easy to create a beautiful card.
The images for this card came from a digital bundle called - Pretty Flowerpots. This set of images, papers and sentiments gives you everything required to create a beautiful Mother’s Day card and more… ( I will link it below ).
The chosen sentiment came from the digital bundle - Perfect Peonies, which is yet another absolutely beautiful digital bundle with endless creative possibilities that include floral images, cutting files, digital papers and sentiments.
Supplies required to create the project:
digital files
rectangle nesting dies
blending brushes
Ink pads
sun and grass stencils or dies
Looks like a lot of products… I know. It is likely however that you have some of these things hanging about already in your stash, and if you don’t - clouds, grass and rectangle dies are a basic staple for a card makers arsenal.
The creation of the card is easier than you think. It starts with the 3 sizes of rectangles on the larger size.
1 - 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 layer of white cardstock with each of the rectangle shapes cut directly in the center of each layer.
using repositionable tape runner attach all 3 layers together (larger opening at the back continuing to the smallest)
Stencil the clouds onto this layered piece using the light blue ink from the top of the layer to about 3/4 of the way down the card.
Stencil the grass on the bottom section of the layers with the grassy green ink and stencil.
Un attach the layers - this will be easy if you used a repositionable tape.
Die cut a sun and ink blend it with some shades of yellow ink.
Print the images from Butterfly Flowerpots
Color the images in desired colors.
Cut out the images.
Attach the sun peeking out from the back side of the 2nd layer.
Attach the butterfly peeking out from the backside of the 3rd layer (front layer).
Attach the flower pots to the backside of the 3rd layer - bring the leaves and blooms to the front of the 3rd layer.
Apply foam strips to the back of the 2nd layer and the back of the top layer.
Adhere the layers together.
Print and cut the sentiment and place in desired position on the card front.
Add any additional highlight, glitter, or gems to complete a beautiful project!
This card layout can be used to create many other card types. It looks beautiful with flowers - yet definitely isn’t limited to just flowers. Browse through the digital images at Polka Doodles and see how many other card ideas come to life in your imagination.
I truly hope you enjoyed this card and that you decide to give it a try - you won’t be disappointed. If you have any questions about the creation of the card just pop them in the comments below.
