Creating cards on a budget…
This super cute card is a testament to creating a card without breaking the bank.
The card starts with a 4 1/4 x 5 1/5 layer of white cardstock. Clouds were added to the top 3/4 of the card using a cloud stencil. Any cloud stencil you have in your stash will work, and if you don’t have one I will add a cost effective one into the products below. To create clouds you can also use your paper snips and a piece of copy paper to cut the billows of clouds (similar to a cloud stencil) and then use this in the same fashion to create clouds with a light blue ink.
As well, you can simply use the light blue ink and a blending brush to randomly blend in circular motions onto the background panel to replicate fluffy clouds.
Next we add a piece of green pattern paper cut at 1 3/4 inches x 4 1/4. The edge of this layer is cut using a grass border die. If you don’t have green pattern paper, you can use a simple piece of green cardstock and blend some green ink onto it to add a little dimension. You could also start with a piece of white cardstock paper and ink blend it. You can even just stamp or swipe the color onto the white cardstock piece directly from your ink pad.
If you don’t have a grass die cut border, I will link one below. Clouds and grass borders are a must have for your craft stash - they will get used over and over again. However if you don’t have one and you don’t want to purchase one at this time, you can simply use a pair of paper snips to cut a little jagged edge on the edge of this section of paper. Simply make little snips straight into the paper about 1/2 inch long and about an 1/8 of an inch apart until you have cut across the length of the paper section.
The grass border is attached to the bottom of the background layer using foam tape to create a slight hint of dimension to this scene.
Moving on to this adorable little napping sloth -
Stamp the sloth on the tree branch, the leaves, and a few extra leaves.
Color the images using copic markers, coloring pencils or whatever coloring medium you have.
Attach the sloth and some of the leaves with foam tape, and the remaining leaves with liquid glue.
** Lawn Fawn’s - I like Naps is $3.99!! This is how these cute little stamp sets fit perfectly into anyone’s budget! There are tons of cards that can be created with this super sweet napping sloth on his tree branch.
Lawn Fawn has several similar super cute stamp sets in this same price point. I make it a point to grab one as often as I can, and I’m always amazed at the fun cards that result from them. Be sure to check out more of those at the Scrapbook.com site as well.
Next stamp the little “zzzz’s” just above the sloth’s head.
Also stamp the sentiment just above the grass line and just a little to the right.
I use a Misti ( stamp placement tool ) for my stamping to ensure the stamping goes onto the card in the right places, straight, and also to ensure that I get a nice crisp impression. So - if it wasn’t as great as I intended with the first stamp I can simply ink up again and re stamp. The stamp positioning tool ensures the stamp will stamp in exactly the same place.
If you don’t have a stamp positioning tool - no fears! You can use your typical acrylic stamp block and your trusty eyesight! :) I will link both options in the products below.
Lastly we are adding a few gems or rhinestones for just a little bit of added interest and beauty to this card front, before attaching it with liquid glue to the front a card base cut at 4 1/4 x 11, Scored at 5 1/2.
Or maybe you prefer an 8 1/2 inch x 5 1/5 inch base, scored at 4 1/4. Either works just fine.
You can find a huge variety of gems or bling for your cards by clicking the link below and searching for embellishments, rhinestones etc. at Scrapbook.com. You’ll simply be amazed at what you find!
