Happy Thoughts Card - Translucent Florals

Do you ever purchase an edition to your craft space with great intentions - but then actually never use it?

Well I did… I bought this Translucent Florals stamp & Die bundle from Stampin’ Up way back in September and it sat and sat and continued to sit.

I kept looking at it, telling myself I had to come up with something to use it for - those bundles are expensive!

Yesterday, I thought a great way to start a Monday was to overcome a challenge, the challenge being to use this bundle to create something beautiful.

Which brings us to one of the reasons I decided to venture away from committing myself to only creating with Stampin’ Up products. I kept finding myself just stumped when it came to the product. I have no idea why… If you look at the set it’s beautiful. Lovely florals designs in both the stamp set and the coordinating designer paper ( Delightful Florals).

It seemed the easiest way to come up with something was to start with a design I had previously used on a card that worked. So I chose to go with the design used for the Squirrel Appreciation Day card - which turned out so adorable.

That design used a simple edge border to cut a top layer that sits popped up with foam tape to the card front to add both interest and dimension. This design also shows off either a stenciled, blended or pattern paper background on the first layer of the card. Allowing the sentiment to be placed on a different layer of the card front. All adding interest to the card front.

So this is exactly what I did with the Translucent Floral products. The first issue I had was the designer paper was to thin and flimsy to support the layer even with heavy foam tape on the back of it. So I had to cut a supporting layer, which is ok - most great movies have a supporting actor.

Next issue began with choosing a sentiment - what did I want my card to say? I placed several of the stamps included in the bundle where I had intended my greeting to go, however nothing seemed to look right.

This is often the case for me with a Stampin’ Up stamp set - I just never seem to like the greetings and sentiments included in the stamp sets. Always I have had to search elsewhere for a more suitable greeting. I don’t mind mixing and matching sentiments on card fronts at all, however when I purchase a bundle I completely expect those greetings are going to be useful for the intended cards.

With a quick scramble around my workspace I spied a tiny sentiment set that I had acquired and was simply just waiting there to highlight the perfect card. I tried “Sending Happy Little Thoughts” in place and I loved it. So.. obviously I stamped it there.

Using this sentiment on the card front paved the way to using “ Today & Always “ on the inside of the card. They go perfectly together - I guess that’s why they come as a set. Makes sense.

After creating a floral focal point for the card, adding some gems, and of course a touch of sparkling magic to the card front and the card inside (I’m a firm believer that the beauty should not end on the card front ) I absolutely loved the card.

I created a coordinating envelope by decorating the envelope flap with the same coral colored designer paper, and added a little magic to the envelope.

All in all, I ended up quite pleased with the final result of this card. Someone is going to love receiving it!!

Give the card a try - Instructions can be found in Projects.
