Fun Winter Card/Reindeer Farts

It’s so cold out…

Anyone remember those one liners? It’s so cold out - then you would fill in the rest of the sentence with your comparison of the freezing cold temperatures. The rest of the sentence was usually some one liner that was meant to make someone laugh about the exaggeration of the description of the cold temps.

I live in Canada, you know, where everyone thinks we live in igloos, that we ice fish to catch our dinner on a daily basis, snowshoes are our main source of transportation in the winter, and our everyday fashion style consists of heavy parkas and layers of long johns…. so I have definitely heard many of those cold temperature comparisons in my lifetime.

Just to clarify, we are not over here dog sledding to the grocery store, hanging out with polar bears, and I don’t even own a pair of thermal long johns.

However, I won’t argue at all that it does get pretty nippy here in Canada. We can wake up to minus 40 weather many times over a winter season and sometimes for days on end and thought we are just conditioned to it, you will still hear “It’s so cold out there….”

So this card was exceptionally fun for me. It falls right into our chilly winter banter…

“It’s so cold out there, I just saw a deer fart a snowflake!”

This card is just to cute!

The image and sentiment on this super fun winter card come from Whimsy Stamps digital collection - Reindeer Farts

I colored the image with Copic Markers, added some tiny sparkling snowflakes with some blue shaded Stickles. Also added the same Stickles to the snowflake. Ink blended just a touch of blue sky.

I then cut 2 layers using a larger arch die - 1 in just think white cardstock, and 1 in the blue pattern paper. I glued them together to create a frame for my card front to create the illusion of looking out a window. The arch frame is attached using foam tape.

I dug in my stash and found a few glittery snowflakes to add just an extra touch of that snowy feel to the card front. The inside sentiments reads “Warm Winter Wishes”.

This was a super easy card to create thanks to Whimsy’s terrific digital images and sentiments.

It also helped since I live in the deep North here and could identify with both the cold winter temps as well as the deer. We have a plentitude of deer wandering about no matter the season. They travel though our back or front yard looking for a nibble of frozen cherries from the cherry tree, or some fresh cedar brouse, and the very lucky will wander off with a little snack of freshly layed out oats or grains.

This card will actually be going to an elderly gentleman who lives in a nearby long term care facility. I have known him since I was a kid, he ran the local feed store his whole life. Being in farm country he was well known for miles and a pillar to our community. I remember him always having a silly sense of humor and thought this card might bring him a smile as well as a reminder that he is respected and well loved for his dedication to this cold North farming district.

I hope you have enjoyed today’s creative inspiration - now I must go, my dog sled is waiting…
