From Blooming Dahlias to a Greeting Card

Our stunning summer flowers are beginning to show their colorful blooms! Are you seeing the beauty of the season in vibrant floral displays?

What’s in your garden?

I found these beautiful dahlias blooming in my friends’ flower garden and the photographer in me couldn’t help but snap a few photos. Flowers are such an easy subject for photos due to their endless beauty and willingness to sit still!

The photographer in me captured these vibrant blooms, however the novice artist in me needed to attempt to recreate these gorgeous flowers on a card front.

While a colored sketch on a card front can in no way exude the intense beauty of flower blooms that a camera lens will capture, overall I think this was a fairly good attempt.

The sketch came from a PolkaDoodles digital download - Dahlia Flower 1

Which also includes the black & white sketch, a pre colored sketch, 3 digital papers, and 2 sentiments. I used 1 of the sentiments for this card.

I used Copic Markers to color the dahlia image. Could the color have been even more exact to the photo? It sure could have, however my color pallet of Copics is not as large as I would like it to be so I just wing it with what I have.

The background included a splatter of green ink to coordinate with the green leaves and “leaf” a little interest to the card besides the floral image. The dahlias are popped up with foam tape to create dimension. The front panel is paired with some lovely gold metallic paper from my stash and also displays a few gold colored rhinestones.

Speaking of beautiful flower blossoms - I just received some gorgeous physical product (not digital) from PolkaDoodles which included their new Botanical Bliss Collection.

Again - this is physical product… so stamps, stencils and dies that I absolutely cannot wait to create with!

All of the products were just so top notch! I am completely impressed with their line of products and we’ll venture more into that in some upcoming posts.
