Bella Bouquet - Mother’s Day Card

Beautiful card, small faux paus, and how I fixed it!

Recently we found Bella the Bear rolling around in a flower patch full of daisies and other lovely flowers.

She has surfaced from the flower gardens sporting a lovely bouquet of flowers just in time for Mother’s Day!

“Today is Special because YOU are in it!”

What a beautiful sentiment for a card, especially a Mother’s Day card…

So this card started out quite easily…

I printed the Bella Bear Bouquet image from a digital file at Polka Doodles. I had totally intended for this card to have pink as a focal color rather than the yellow it turned out to be. Needless to say I had a piece of lovely pink patterned paper chosen to accent the focal image… until this…

I mean I guess it was ok when looking at the picture above? However I felt like the pink on the flowers was going to clash with the pink stripes on the shirt. So the point is - I thought it was just to much pink.

Since I didn’t want to just throw away the image I had already colored, here is how I remedied the situation to appease my inner creative soul. I printed another copy of the same design that I had originally started with. This time I only colored the flowers. My brain decided that yellow would work for the inside of the flowers and I would just leave the petals shaded as a white. Plus I had a piece of yellow pattern paper already printed and sitting on my desktop, this really swayed the yellow decision.

After coloring in only the flowers section (not the leaves), I used my paper snips to fussy cut around the little flowers. Popped them up with foam and added over the top of the flowers on the previous image. This gave the flowers dimension and set the leaves back apart from the flowers. Which was a nice effect.

I fussy cut Bella and the tiny bee.

Cut a card base of 4 1/4 x 11, Scored @ 5 1/2. Attached a strip of the yellow pattern paper cut at 2 3/4 x 5 1/2 to the center of the front of the card base. This beautiful checkered paper is also a digital design paper from Polka Doodles.

You can find that here: Spring Gnomes Printable Paper ( 16 designs, by the way)

I added foam tape to the back of Bella and attached her towards the bottom of the pattern paper. I adhered a bee to the left side of Bella, and decided the right side of the card needed something?!

I went back to the 2nd image I had printed out - where I had only used the flowers - and cut the bee from that layer, colored it, added some foam tape and attached that bee on the right side of the card.

That balance things out nicely!

The sentiment is from a digital sentiment pack from Polka Doodles.

Spring Gnome Fun Quotes ( not just for Gnomes ).

This particular sentiment would make this a perfect Mother’s Day card for Bella to present her bouquet of lovely flowers from the flower garden.

I centered the sentiment across the top of the card to balance the whole card front out.

I added a few yellow rhinestones and absolutely loved the card!!!

It’s no surprise, right?! That all of my card parts and pieces came from Polka Doodles digital collections.

I absolutely love mixing and matching all of the amazing digital products offered at Polka Doodles.

I love that I have access to instant product to create with, that the designs are more than affordable, that I don’t have to pay shipping, I don’t have to worry about storage for physical products, I can take all of the files with me on a flash drive for easy creating on the go ( aka to our cabin in the woods ), and most of all I am extremely happy to be doing my part to reduce the “carbon footprint”!! - Crafting with a conscience!!

While creating this post… I have been second guessing my choice to stray away from the pink flowers and wondering if they would have worked without to much confusion between Bella’s top and the flowers themselves.

Maybe it would have worked out ok with the pink patterned paper I had originally intended??
