Thanksgiving Turkey (cross that out) Hedgehog Card…

Have you ever gone into your studio/craft space to say… take photos of a turkey themed card that you had crafted the day before - but indeed came out with a string of bountiful hedgehogs instead?

Well I just can’t make this stuff up! That’s exactly what happened to me yesterday.

These adorable little hedgehogs were just hanging out on my desk - not in the form of a card front. Just haphazardly printed on a piece of cardstock paper, laying there in a pile, apparently looking very lonely and unattended.

Meanwhile in my office the computer is powered up, my web page editor is on screen and waiting for a uploaded picture of a Turkey, or at least a turkey on a card front.

Back in the studio several Copic Marker combinations are splayed across the desk and there are three little pieces of brightly colored fruit sitting atop the heads of black and white hedgehogs that are just waiting to come to life.

Gobble, gobble1? Some strokes of color added to the pumpkin hedgehog, however he certainly doesn’t resemble a turkey in any way shape or form.

Time passes and I have 3 little hedgehogs with their fruit offerings all colored and fussy cut sitting on my workspace waiting for a little seasonal background.

This is the point where I try to remember where I got these images and was there an intended background?

Or am I going to just pull something together to create a background for these little bundles of fur who are obviously getting ready for a fall feast.

That moment passed and I realized there were remnants of a possible background in the pile of printed illustrations on my desk. At least I think this background goes with these little guys?! And if it doesn’t - well that is the magic of creativity! It’s going to by the time I finish a card front.

So the little leaves and lawn backdrop were colored up with the same colorful shades of the pumpkin, apple, pear and fruit leaves. The layer was trimmed up and I gave these little characters a dress rehearsal on the card panel.

They were going to look cute enough - but with a whole lot of sky space at the top of the card.

Meanwhile: Has anyone seen a turkey?!

I needed a greeting that would take up a fair amount of area on the top of the card - darn short little hedgehogs!

And what kind of card was this? Is the question I was asking as I ruffled through stamps of sentiments and greetings. Was it a friendship card? - that would be cute, but the friendship sentiment I happened to like was far to small for that amount of real estate. A birthday card? Fall birthdays are always an occasion for an extremely cute card, however I had just created a fall birthday card a few days ago.

My Falloween blast could really use a Thanksgiving themed card - especially since I seemed to be missing a turkey!!

Oh ya, I was going to take a picture of a Thanksgiving Turkey card…

For a few minutes my mind side tracked with birch trees and owls as I flipped through my stash of stamps looking for just the right sentiment for this card. As always just looking at stamps or images leads me down rabbit holes with ideas of other card fronts, so while telling myself to leave the owls for now I noticed a rather large sentiment on this particular stamp set that read “ Let our lives be full of both Thanks & Giving”. That would be perfect!!

These little hedgehogs looked really thankful and since they were arriving on scene carrying offerings of fruit on their heads they definitely appeared to be giving…

New Products - I had some new products sitting on what I call the hidden object game of a desktop, but one item was just there to the side just begging to be used. It was a shade of red ( cranberry I think ) Pink & Main embossing powder.

So this perfect sentiment ( which was from Sweet November Stamps by the way ) ended up heat embossed in a beautiful sparkly shade of cranberry on this card front.

This gorgeous sentiment paired up perfectly with a matted layer of red behind the card front panel. I adhered this all together onto a card base, and finally gave those adorable little hedgehogs a place worthy of their Thanksgiving gathering.

The hedgehogs were a Gerda Steiner Illustration - Harvest Hedgehogs Digital Stamp and the download came with a bonus of that lovely background and a sentiment. I just didn’t use the sentiment for this particular card.

This card turned out to be just so super cute, however…

A Turkey? Oh yes.. I am in my studio to take a picture of a turkey card - that’s what I was in here for!

What became of the turkey? - Well he eventually ended up in the limelight and you’ll see him center stage featured in the next post.

So just one quick question - do you send Thanksgiving cards?
