“Stuck On You” - Fun & Quirky Greeting Card
This playfully fun greeting card features a smiling cactus and a whimsical design.
This card radiates a playful vibe with a fun "I’m stuck on you" sentiment that perfectly captures the whimsical charm of this adorable design. The cute Desert Cactus image is colored with Copic Markers while happily showing off it’s smile against this flirtatious digital paper - Pretty Winnie Daisy Papers.
Every now and again you want to create a card that’s just simple and fun!
I wanted something simple and fun for this design team challenge. I wanted to create a card that would show all of you that creating a card doesn’t have to be all extravagant, full of fun folds containing a pop out circus and fireworks in order to be a fun card!
While cards that can do all of those things are simply amazing and can certainly be exiting to create, as card makers we also need the ability to create a fun card that doesn’t require us to put on our engineers hat and put 4 hours of soul searching into the card creation.
Our design team challenge this time was “flowers” and while Polka Doodles certainly has a ton of absolutely gorgeous flowers to create with, I felt the need to not only think outside the box but as well to stay on the simpler side of creation.
My knowledge about flowers and their colors and shadow patterns is likely much higher in the traditional flower zone, since photography is my side gig and beautiful florals often end up being my subject.
A cactus and I are about as up close and friendly as a dog and squirrel… I don’t understand them and they don’t understand me. So in other words - I’ve never actually owned or kept alive a cactus or anything from the cactii family.
Keeping with “broadening our horizons” I decided a cactus it would be.
Polka Doodles has a fabulous collection of cactus themed images, papers and sentiments, so I set out to choose one, and this little guy on the card front made the pick.
It took me less than 5 minutes to choose the image, the background paper, and the sentiment. I had the paper first already printed from another project and just hanging about on my desk. The rest was simply choosing Copic colors that would look great with the chosen paper, and I couldn’t go wrong with the “stuck on you” sentiment.
I added foam tape to the back of the cactus image after cutting it out, and adhered it to a white cardstock panel, after spattering the panel with the same color ink I had chosen for the blooms on the cactus. I then added this layer to a card base with a layer of the pattern paper.
I could have maybe chosen a die cut shape for the pattern paper, or some fancy edges, maybe rounded the corners on 2 edges… but I was going for simple right?!
So all in all, the project was finished, and I loved it!
This cactus and myself have a much better relationship now - we’ve actually bonded and I’ve agreed to meet some more members of his family - AKA I have been working with some more of the fun images from
Happy Cactus Succulent Bundle - check out the images, you’ll love them!
So… the card -
It qualifies as a flower?! - Doesn’t it?!?!
I contemplated that over and over again, even after I had finished my card. Asked everyone I know… they all concluded - it qualifies as a flower.
I hope you enjoyed this card and the collection of images, papers, sentiments - you have to check out the sentiments, they are just to funny!
