Father’s Day Gnome Card with a Fun Flap…
Or is it a flip? Flip, flap… something like that!
This Father’s day card is definitely not “par for the course”!
It’s a super fun card that Dad will flip over!
The card features digital products from Polka Doodles! Images - Golf Cart Gnome for Men, paired with awesome digital papers - Gnome Men Golf printable paper and Gnome Men’s Greetings.
The card front flap, flips over and stands in place for display!
This card is sure to be a “hole in one”!
Is your Dad a golfer?
I’d ask if he was a Gnome, however that’s not very likely to be the case!
If it is kudos, that’s completely cool!
My Dad wasn’t a golfer … never even would have held a golf club in his life. He was a hard working dairy farmer and a blue collar worker for the local town Works Department. These jobs left him no time for golfing or any other hobby, however when he retired he was able to pursue his dream of race horses! So not at all like golf, other than in both sports you hope to win, I guess.
So my Dad wasn’t a golfer, but we knew many men who were. In fact one of my Dads’ closest friends was a die hard golfer… at the golf course every chance he gets… and still.
My Dad is gone now, however his great golfing friend Keith is thankfully still with us. No one could ever replace my Dad but Keith would certainly be a close runner up. We were born and raised with him in our lives, and what a great example and mentor he was to have.
This brings me to the creation of this card… a great card is one that you put your heart and soul into. When your Dad is no longer with you it’s hard to put your heart and soul into a creating a Father’s Day Card. So this card was created with Keith in mind - his love for golf, his love for his family and friends, and the amazing man and Father I know him to be. With these things in mind creating the card was easy and a ton of fun!
And well once the golfing theme was chosen… how could anyone resist the fun to be had creating with these Gnome digital goodies! Golf Cart Gnome for Men
Like so many of the digital files at Polka Doodles this file comes complete with golfing images, pattern papers, and many sentiments for Dad ( or men ), plus… cutting files.
Let me just recap the contents of this file:
9 printable images
19 Gnome themed messages
6 printable patterned papers
plus cutting files
Don’t forget… if you are not into coloring you can purchase this same set with pre colored images!
How great is that!?
Let’s get into the measurements and mechanism for this flipping fun card!
Card base cardstock layer - 6 1/2 x 5 1/2, Scored at 4 1/4.
Cardstock Front Panel layer (front flap) - 4 x 4 1/4
Cardstock Mechanism Piece - 3 1/4 x 4
Pattern Paper - 1 7/8 x 5 3/8 ( cut 2 )
Pattern Paper - 7/8 x 4 1/8 (cut 2)
Pattern Paper 2 - 3 7/8 x 4 1/8
White cardstock layer - 5 3/8 x 4 1/8
Cut and score the cardstock and pattern paper sections.
Adhere Pattern Paper 2 to the coordinating cardstock layer. ( we are doing this step now because it is easier to do when it can be laid out flat).
Ensure the mechanism layer is creased well on the score line. Place liquid glue on the back of the top section of the mechanism and adhere to the front 2 inch flap of the card base ( horizontal ). The score line of the mechanism runs with the edge of the card base.
Adhere 1 section of the 1 7/8 inch pattern to the card base front, where you just attached the top of the flap - so you are covering the adhered section of the mechanism with the pattern paper.
* In case of confusion, created by the instructor - that’s me, you are adhering the pattern paper to what would be the partial card front of the base.
So now you have a card base with a flappy mechanism attached to it.
** Easy way to do the next step - Lay the card flat in front of you, apply glue to the remainder of the mechanism. Place the Front Flap Layer down centered on the card front and flush with the bottom of the card base. The front flap layer will adhere itself to the mechanism.
With the card still flat, flip the Front Flip Panel up and adhere the 2nd 1 7/8 pattern paper layer to the backside of the front of the card base.
Attach the white cardstock layer to the inside of the card.
Adhere the 7/8 inch pattern paper strips on either side of the white cardstock layer.
Color the Gnome in the Golf Cart using Copic Markers in the desired colors for your project.
Adhere the Gnome and his golf card to the front panel.
I chose to color some additional golf clubs from the digital image pack, as well as a bucket of balls, and a score sheet.
I colored and fussy cut all of the images, however there are cutting files included with the purchase of this bundle. I just find it easier to fussy cut things.
After adhering the golf cart to the front panel layer, I then played around with these extra items and placed them around the golf card until I was happy with the placements.
I added a bit of detail, such as metallic gel pen to the ends of the golf clubs, curling the edge of the score sheet, and some white gel pen divots on the golf balls to add texture.
I trimmed the sentiment to 1/2 x 3 1/4 and flagged the ends ( golf flag ).
Using a scrap of the pattern paper remaining from the front panel layer cut at 2 1/2 x 3/4 I created a matting layer for the inside sentiment. Adhered the sentiment to the pattern paper layer. Added foam tape to the back of it and placed it on the inside white cardstock layer. The foam tape and the sentiment act as a prop to hold up the front flap easel for display.
Lastly, I added a few coordinating rhinestones for extra interest, not that the card front doesn’t have enough going on …
After typing out the instructions for this card - I ask myself… Why do I not do more video instructionals ?!?!?
I don’t know why.. I do know that I truly hope you can understand the instructions as written above and hey if not just drop me a comment below and I’ll do a quick video to help clear up any confusion.
The card is super easy… I promise!
The recipient will think it looks like the average card when they pull it out of the envelope, until they see the cute flipping effect that turns it into an easel card for display purposes! Which allows both the fun golfing gnome image as well as the coordinating papers to be showcased along with your love for Dad!
