Birthday Card - Dandy Day

A super quick, yet effective birthday card today using a masking technique paired with some soft ink blending. A few quick stamps, a couple of cuts, some glue, the perfect birthday sentiment and ending with some glistening gems.

No fancy stencil required!

It is no surprise that the Dandy Day stamp set, paired with its’ coordinating dies and a little creative inspiration has an end result of some pretty amazing cards for many occasions.

Today’s card does not fall short of that, however, the process is slightly quicker than the cards we have created using “Dandy Day” in the past.

We are starting with a layer of cardstock cut at 4 1/8 x 5 3/8.

As well as a piece of plain old copy paper cut at the same measurement.

A circle die (2 1/2 -3 inch) - place the circle die onto the copy paper in the desired position and cut. This outline and a bit of repositionable tape runner creates a DIY stencil.

Apply repositionable tape runner to the back of the stencil and place over the cardstock panel.

Using a blending brush and Twisted Citron Distress Oxide Ink blend in small circle motions diagonally across the bottom to mid left of the circle cut out.

Switching to Tumbled Glass using the same small circle motions to blend into the Twisted Citron ink and upwards into the rest of the circle cut out.

Then just bring the blending brush used for the Twisted Citron back in (using the remaining ink on the brush) light just blend over the joining of the 2 colors to achieve a soft transition between the colors.

Remove the mask - it looks so beautiful!

Add a light splatter of white over the ink blended section of the card layer. Set aside to dry.

Stamp the little mouse character from the Dandy Day stamp onto some scrap paper, along with the partial dandelion fluff. Color the images. Cut out either with coordinating dies or just fussy cut. Either works.

Add foam tape to the back of the mouse, without peeling off the backing yet.

When the background layer is dry - stamp the sentiment slightly into the ink blending circle and trailing off into the the white space.

Assemble the “tiny fluff” stamps onto a clear block and stamp them in a pattern starting from the ink blended circle out into the white space. Stamp as many or as few as you like.

Set the mouse in the circle in approximately the position you would like ( remember the backing is still on the foam). Using the mouse as a guide to decipher were you would like to position the dandelion fluff. When this is established glue the dandelion fluff into place.

Remove the foam backing from the mouse and adhere it to the card front.

Attach this layer to a card base cut at 8 1/2 x 5 1/2, Scored at 4 1/2. You can use white or a color cardstock that will coordinate with the colors on the card front panel. You choose!

Final touches:

  • I used stickles to give the dandelion fluff and the tiny fluff sections a little sparkle.

  • As well as adding a few Paper Rose shaker elements randomly placed around the card front to add just a little more interest to the card.

I love the soft tones of the card and the sentiment is one my favorite sentiments for a birthday card -

“May All Your Dreams Come True”.
